Sanjib K. Roy, symbolically known by his artist name “YANTR,” is a prominent street artist from India. Originally from the culturally rich town of Nagaon, Assam, YANTR has made a significant mark on the Indian contemporary art scene.
The name “YANTR” is derived from the Sanskrit word for “machine.” In Sanskrit, YANTR means “instrument” or “tool,” reflecting the thematic essence of his art.
Launched on International Women's Day in 2018, the Shillong Street Art Festival, organized by Yantr, brought together artists from across India and local talent to transform the city's streets into vibrant canvases. Featuring a diverse range of themes, from women empowerment and education to flora and fauna, traditional Khasi culture, and bio-mechanical art, the festival aimed to put Shillong on the global art map and empower the youth through street art.
